The silence of God, especially when we need Him most, is probably the most difficult, but necessary aspect of Christianity. Why? How could our loving heavenly Father be so cruel as to “hide Himself” in our deepest pain? A major part of the answer is that Moses knew God’s ways, rather than just “His acts,” “for we walk by faith, not by sight.” He understood His heart, why He acts, and why He waits; otherwise our patience wears thin, like the people Moses led in the desert, who would have stoned him to death, had not God intervened (Is 45:15; 2 Cor 5:7; Ps 103:7; Num 14:1–10).
